“Rose Hill is such a special place -- truly the most magical and nurturing school experience for any young child.  The outdoor area is amazing and the kids get to take advantage of it all year long. The school fosters a love of creativity and togetherness; we are so grateful for all they have done. Craig and the teachers are building such a wonderful community and we are incredibly honored to been a part of it. I don't think any kid was happier going to school than my daughter when she went to Rose Hill.”

What is Montessori?

The Montessori approach to education was developed over 100 years ago by Italian physician Maria Montessori and is still considered one of the best educational systems for preschool-aged children. Her unique approach to nurturing and educating has been adapted worldwide. It begins with the “Prepared Environment” which supports all different types of learners and builds intrinsic motivation as children explore at their own pace and make meaningful connections and discoveries. The methodology values project-based learning and embraces the importance of teaching young learners practical-life skills. Like any quality early childhood practice, Montessori is child-centered at its core and values exposure to new materials, sensory-based experiences, and early academic concepts. This all takes place in a warm and nurturing environment with skilled and loving teachers to guide learning and development. We have combined the practices of Montessori with a rich Reggio Emilia, Arts-based, and Emergent Curriculum.

The goal of childhood education should be to activate the child’s own natural desire to learn — Maria Montessori

“Rose Hill Montessori has been such a blessing in our family and neighborhood. The school creates a great combination of play based learning, social emotional development, art and music focus, and outdoor fun. Two private playgrounds keep the children safe while allowing ample time for outdoor play. Teachers are caring and involved, meeting each "student" where they're at and promoting conflict resolution and respect for each other. Tuition is reasonable and small school size creates a community amongst staff and families. Our child is thriving and happy. We're so grateful to have found Rose Hill Montessori and highly recommend it!”

The Montessori Classroom

Casa dei Bambini.

The Montessori Environment contains specially-designed materials that invite children to engage in learning activities of their individual choice. Under the guidance of a teacher, children in a Montessori classroom learn by making discoveries within the materials, in turn cultivating concentration, motivation, self-discipline, and a love of learning.

Autonomy.

Each material focuses on a specific quality. For example, “the pink tower” is made of ten cubes and isolates the concept of size. The preschooler constructs a tower starting with the largest cube at the base and up to the smallest cube on top. The cubes are purposefully made all the same color and texture; the only difference is their size.

Moreover, the Montessori materials are self-correcting. When a piece doesn’t fit or is left over, the child can easily perceive the error. There’s no need for adult “correction,” the child can solve problems independently, and build self-confidence, analytic thinking, and satisfaction from accomplishing their goal.
